NaPoWriMo / GloPoWriMo 2018 – Day 24 – “Hopes & Teardrops” by David Ellis

Hello everyone.

Look at me still playing by my own rules! April finished a few days ago but I’ve still got this gig to finish off, so thank you for stopping by and please enjoy the vol au vents along the way while we continue to indulge in more poetic madness.

Here is my Day 24 entry for NaPoWriMo/GloPoWriMo. I’ve written another ‘found poem’. You may remember that I did one of them earlier in the month and I immediately wanted to do another one.

So, I did another one (surprise, surprise).

A quick recap of what a ‘found poem’ is – it consists of picking out words and phrases that you like from a particular essay or passage of writing and making an entirely new poem out of it.

(This process is also known as blackout poetry, where you black out the words you don’t want to use).

This time round I used Maya Angelou’s magnificent “Still I Rise” as inspiration and you can find her wonderful poem here:-

“Still I Rise” by Maya Angelou – POETRY FOUNDATION

And here is my found poem based on her poem. Hope you enjoy it.

“Hopes & Teardrops” by David Ellis

Write me down
Sassiness beset with
moons and suns.

Certainty of springing high.
See me broken?
Teardrops weakened
Because I laugh.

Got gold words
Eyes may kill with sexiness
Dance like diamonds.

Meeting my history
A past ocean
Leaving behind fear.

Bringing gifts
That I am
the dream
and hope.

Still want more? How about revisiting the first found poem that I wrote earlier in the month? Check it out here:-

    • Cheers Eric, I appreciate you compliment good buddy 🙂 I will return the favour and read your poems after I have linked to the final few of yours for the end of the month. I lost a few days due to illness and other commitments but once I am done, it will be a reading frenzy for me 😉
