Day 22 – NanoPoblano – “Words Last By Their Deeds” by David Ellis – A Found Poem Inspired by “Do not go gentle into that good night” by Dylan Thomas

Hello everyone.

Here we are at Day 22 of NanoPoblano of my found poetry marathon and what is unusual is that I’m not actually writing this on Thanksgiving, because I am a couple of days behind, even though I’m actually linking back to Thanksgiving posts (it’s enough to make your head spin but let’s move swiftly on).

Tonight, I’ve decided to pick a very famous poem by Dylan Thomas as my found poetry muse, which is “Do not go gentle into that good night”.

As I special treat, I have found a YouTube video, which has Dylan reading his poem, in what is regarded as one of his finest poems of all time.

Also, I have linked to the lyrics below, which are copyrighted therefore it is better that you go read them there if you don’t want to watch the video.

The lyrics to “Do not go gentle into that good night” by Dylan Thomas over at poets.org

Finally, here is my found poem based on the incredible words of Mr Thomas, thank you for reading and hope you enjoy my poem.

“Words Last By Their Deeds” by David Ellis

Go into old age and at close of day
Know words last by how bright their deeds have danced in the light
Wild, caught the sun in flight
Learn too late
It’s not good men who see with blind eyes and rage
You, now, with your fierce tears
Go gentle into that good light
