Day 27 – NanoPoblano – “When The Stars Threw Down Heaven With Their Tears” by David Ellis – A Found Poem Inspired by “The Tyger” by William Blake

Hello folks.

Getting very close to the end of my month long found poetry marathon for NanoPoblano, with not many more poems left to go at all!

We are now at Day 27 of this poetic realm and I sincerely hope you are all having a very good time with this series.

Tonight, I have used the legendary William Blake as my inspirational poetic partner and gone with his poem “The Tyger” as my foundation poem.

You can find the lyrics to it here at Poetry Foundation, along with other poems he has written.

Lyrics to “The Tyger” by William Blake over at Poetry Foundation

I have also provided the lyrics below for convenience, since they happen to be in the public domain.

“The Tyger” by William Blake

Tyger Tyger, burning bright,
In the forests of the night;
What immortal hand or eye,
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?

In what distant deeps or skies.
Burnt the fire of thine eyes?
On what wings dare he aspire?
What the hand, dare seize the fire?

And what shoulder, & what art,
Could twist the sinews of thy heart?
And when thy heart began to beat,
What dread hand? & what dread feet?

What the hammer? what the chain,
In what furnace was thy brain?
What the anvil? what dread grasp,
Dare its deadly terrors clasp!

When the stars threw down their spears
And water’d heaven with their tears:
Did he smile his work to see?
Did he who made the Lamb make thee?

Tyger Tyger burning bright,
In the forests of the night:
What immortal hand or eye,
Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?

And finally, here is my found poem based on the exquisite words of William Blake, thank you for reading and hope you like it 🙂

“When The Stars Threw Down Heaven With Their Tears” by David Ellis

The forests of the eye
Could frame distant skies
Fire on wings aspire, dare seize the shoulder
Art could twist heartbeat
And hammer the brain
When the stars threw down heaven with their tears
Smile to see who made the burning bright of the night
What eye dare frame – symmetry
