NaPoWriMo 2019 – Day 3 – “Growing Old With Pets” by David Ellis

Hello again folks.

Here we are at Day 3 of NaPoWriMo / National Poetry Writing Month.

I thought tonight that I would write something dear to my heart, so I have gone with the theme of animals.

For Day 3 of NaPoWriMo, the prompt challenge is to write something that involves a story or action that unfolds over an appreciable length of time. Focus on imagery, or sound, or emotional content (or all three!)

NaPoWriMo.net – Day 3 prompt

So here is my poem, thank you for reading and feel free to share with me your favourite stories/things about your own pets in the comments, I would sincerely love to read about them 🙂

Adopt a pet

Animals big or small

They are always there for you

Feel loved and give yourself purpose

Choose for them wild, silly names

Cuddle for days, share warmth, make them family

Fill your phone with pictures of their presence

They are blessings from the heavens

Reducing stress and loneliness with their sweetness

Walk, run, play or stay in and read them stories

Let them know all your secrets, hopes and dreams

They never judge, the perfect companion

Friends and beautiful memories for life

The best gift you could ever have when it is cold at night

Finding joy in the simplest of things

Their smiles, their antics, their kisses

Time stops when they are around

And life begins

    • Oh no! What a silly thing to do! If I was a dog, there is no way in heck I would cheat myself out of a belly rub, that just wouldn’t do at all! Hope she has behaved herself since then and has won your over for more belly rubs in the meantime 🙂 I’ll head on over to your blog to read about your dog soon 🙂
