NaPoWriMo 2019 – Day 22 – “As The Flames Get Closer” – A Found Poem Inspired by “Belief in Magic” by Dean Young

Hello everyone, thank you for showing up once again, you’re all too kind!

For Day 22 of National Poetry Writing Month, I went way back into the NaPoWriMo HQ archives to their Day 13 prompt (alright not that far back, I jest but it feels like Day 13 was an eternity ago when looking at it from this perspective!)

I ended up using a poem as my inspiration called “Belief in Magic” by Dean Young. You can find the lyrics to it here:-

“Belief in Magic” by Dean Young over at Poetry Foundation

And now here is my own found poem based on that particular poem, thank you for reading as always 🙂

“As The Flames Get Closer” by David Ellis

Survive on wine

Shatter the rainbows

Believe reality is full

Of waterfalls in the mind

We all come from

Crystals of independence

Written with a gem in chest

This is heart

Because the pieces asked the chance

To own strange, burning flames

Until all you’re holding is now
