And now for something a little different.
Or not, if you know me and my nature 🙂
I was working on a piece of Flash Fiction where the prompt was the word “Twin”.
This “Twin” started to wobble a bit and had a growth spurt, to whit it then become a genetic mutation and gave birth to a wonderful bit of poetry.
So for your viewing pleasure, may I present to you this little gem.
And don’t take it personally – you’re amazing just the way you are.
Condimental Twins (by David Ellis)
One goes handsomely in tandem (cha cha cha!) with the other
Sharing an intimate meal together like lovers entwined forever
To exist separately in a lonely life
That lacks the spice that we all crave
Maybe we take a little too much
A pinch here, a liberty there, in order to slake our lust
Grain by painful grain, it rubs
It’s of no use crying if she makes you bitter, you indulged her
Any judge will tell you, her wealth of character will inspire awe
Entertained her as a guest, in your castle with her at the throne
You can shake it, shake it all the way down until you shiver and moan
Polar bears, frozen tundra, an icicle in the heart of a ferocious storm
Its white colour swirls like fine teardrops of snow
A pasty looking Madam, if I may be so bold to disclose
A panoply to put it mildly but bluntly, just static on a TV show
Thrown over your shoulder, she’s lucky to have you, as you are her
But what of her partner, what of her non-identical twin?
To sneeze when he is breathed in
Peppered with holes, reminiscent of a toothless grin
To observe the gravy train, where one can dive in and swim
The effort worthy of the reward
It can never be said or declared
That these two are the talk of the town or are chalk and cheese
That is the nature of the beast and the bed in which they reside
Seasons they come, they go, they’re upon us before we even know
These two both make a splendiferous, really cute couple though
One’s strength covers the other one’s weakness
A pillar to the community and a Sergeant no less
To the earth from whence they once came
That’s why I encourage you to make your own
And mind your own business.
Intriguing, still pondering the title, definitely words to read more than once 🙂

Don’t mention it Alison – everyone should take a little time out of their day to make someone feel special.
I make a real effort to respond to every post that I possibly can in an attentive and enthusiastic way because I know how good it feels that someone is listening and takes an interest in your work.
And make no mistake about it – you are special for writing a blog, sharing your pictures/experiences and creating things, you are putting yourself out there and that takes a lot of courage, fortitude & talent, which deserves readership and recognition – well done to you!
