I’ve written another Flash Fiction piece that I was going to submit into a competition but I missed the deadline therefore I am sharing it with you all instead.

I used the picture prompt below to create this piece and I hope you enjoy it.

“Give Peace A Chance” by David Ellis

A war of voices inside my head.

Marching up and down, spinning their batons, trying to make me take notice, preening peacocks in the pursuance of fragile moments from the past, attacking with no mercy and leaving in their wake exposed raw emotion.

The pressure is getting too much, I fear I may shatter all at once, cheap glass with nothing to show for it, savor the pieces of good intentions and best laid plans.

This head that I clutch has been through a lot, a miscarriage, a failed business, an acrimonious divorce but I have always held myself with gentle grace and courage.

Grass beneath my feet feels so cool, wet and comforting in this disparate heat, it brushes against my tender arches, making me tingle and sigh, a release valve forged from nature itself.

I will not listen to their criticism, I am better than them, they will not turn me against myself, for if left unchecked, we are our own worst enemy.

The only cure for this war is peace through confidence.
