Hey there compadrinos.
It’s Day Twenty-Two of NanoPoblano AKA National Blog Posting Month (but with a gang known only to a select group of people and their barbers as Cheer Peppers) and I’m back, busting out the good stuff with gusto in yet another video!
Check out the Facebook Live performance of my latest poem.
I got the inspiration for this particular poem via a word prompt from the OctPoWriMo 2017 list, which I am happy to share with you below:-
Day 22 Purposeful Passion – OctPoWriMo 2017
I also thought that I would attempt a variation on a style I have used before but try to make it as difficult as possible for myself (such fun!), so I went with an acrostic poem (where each letter of a keyword creates the beginning of a word or sentence that relates to the keyword itself) but with a triple twist, where the starting letters, end letters and even middle letters spell out the keyword ‘Passion’ (and I even sneaked a further version of it into the title too for overkill…….good measure).
Acrostics don’t have to be this difficult though, so if you want to try one then don’t have nightmares and think you have to copy me. Here is a link to further guidelines and examples for you to see the form in action:-

If you don’t fancy the idea of this at all (and who could blame you), here are some alternative prompts instead to give you a creative proverbial kick up the jacksie and come out swinging creatively:-

And here (at last, I hear you cry) is my poem in written form, so you can see how damn hard it was to get an acrostic to read down the left, right and middle of the piece but oh boy, was it worth it 😉 (HELL YES IT WAS!)

I started drinking then I remembered I have a blog post to write. – Bug Bytes By Julie Burton
Okay, so I didn’t completely understand what you were saying in your Facebook live about beginning, middle, and end until I actually saw this in written form. And when I did my jaw dropped and I swore. Lol
Very nicely done, David! We should probably have a conversation about why you want to torture yourself all the time though…😉
Lol I thought that may have been the case, especially since acrostics are visual exercises. I nearly didn’t make a video because I was just going to do a simple acrostic and then remembered one of my heroes when Jackie Chan once said “Nobody pay money to see Jackie Chan walk.” Nobody wants to read David’s stuff unless he’s putting himself through the ringer 😉 You know what the scariest thing is? I didn’t consider whether I could do it, I just naturally assumed it was possible and I did it. That reminds me of another video clip that is relevant and it fits so well that I’m laughing my head off over here 🙂
LMAO
“Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should.” Is one of my absolute favorite quotes. And you’re right, it fits very well. 😂
Lord have mercy! What fun that was (to read that is). I complement you on your patience to attack and accomplish such a feat! Take a bow Mr. Ellis!
TY Di – that did take a lot of patience to create and I’m still marvelling at how I actually managed to pull it off. I think I was quite relaxed about being able to spell it down the middle but when I realised that I could do it, I just kept on going 🙂 Trust me to take a simple concept and then try to make it as complicated as possible 😉
Well it was very good David. 😊
