NaPoWriMo / GloPoWriMo 2018 – Day 3 – “Band Rehearsal” by David Ellis

Hey there everyone.

I’m excited to tell you all that I now have caught a cold, which means that the next few days of this month are going to be even more fun!

Laughter is usually the best medicine, so I’ve gone into Day 3 of NaPoWriMo with a keen sardonic slant, with a view to brainstorming made up names, in this case musical band names.

There is a flow to the piece (which is a list poem) when read aloud but I like to also think that each one of these bands could actually exist on some alternative plane of reality and I’m sure that if challenged, I could write material for them.

Feel free to let me know in the comments which one(s) is/are your favourites. If you have any topics/themes you’d like your favourite fantasy band(s) to cover then let me know too, I’ll then write you a song in their particular style dedicated to you and your blog for good measure 😉

Enjoy folks, here we go.

  1. I would love Denying Interventions to cover Benevolent Aliens as a theme. Are you up for it? You can check my blog RealitywithaTwistBooks under the Latest Twisted Posts tab for inspiration if desired.

    • Lol I’m up for anything like this Sheri, let’s see what I can come up with! I did use some of your posts as inspiration for this as well 🙂

“Alien Friends With Benefits” (by Denying Interventions/David Ellis)

In the movies, all species from outer space want to do is devour us
Take away our land, air, sea and atmosphere, leaving nothing but a smoking crater
      Subjecting us to cruel experiments
and some jiggery pokery regarding our butts
Before blasting us all to kingdom come!

But I don’t really believe this is the case
Why judge all races to human standards, alien or otherwise
I truly think there are benevolent aliens out there amongst us
Waiting to shake hands and make friends
Willing to play with our nephews and nieces
While we all enjoy a bit of Space Weevil on the BBQ
and drink chilled brews and futuristic cocktails

Maybe they too crave chocolate doughnuts
Or cake with candy sprinkles and a cherry in the middle
Who are we to stop them if they want to party?
As intelligent life forms, we have so much in common to talk about
And I’m sure they will dig all of our TV shows
I mean who doesn’t like Game of Thrones? (Very few)

We should want to learn more about their technology
Their relationship with the planets of the universe
What they like doing on their weekends off
And what their opinions are of alpacas and llamas
Are they really just horses covered in fluff? Maybe soon enough, we’ll find out!

So, give them a chance and hear what they have to say
Let’s consider cultural and ecological realities, where we can all co-exist
No need to consider blowing each other to bits
Let’s share knowledge, resources and life hacks
A new perspective could be on the horizon
Or at least somebody new to kick back and share doughnuts with
And to be frank, that’s pretty damn beautiful in anyone’s book

      • Hey there Sheri. You most certainly can, I’d be happy for you to do that 😀 Glad you liked it, I really tried to get inspired from your own posts when I wrote it 🙂

      • Yeah, the references to my posts were really fun and you caught the flavor of the Twist. 🙂 I appreciate the research and thought that went into it. Thanks for the permission…I’ll post it soon 🙂

  2. I’m sorry you have a cold. Maybe listening to some soothing music by the Virus Prevention Measure for Cave Dwellers would help. Follow that up with two tunes by the Ghostly Convulsions, and you’ll be good as new in the morning.

    • Lol I didn’t realise that I could look for home therapy through my own words! Even though I feel rough, I think I am fighting this one pretty well, it doesn’t feel like it is going to linger for a long time thank goodness. I’ll just keep writing and working hard to take my mind off of it. Mind over matter and all that 🙂

  3. I’d love to hear Intellectual Wasteland covering one of Strolling Through Background Noise’s biggest hits.
Either that or Permission To Be Serious’ view on our impossibly competent, in no way a caricature, forever the epitome of sense, Foreign Secretary BoJo.

    • Interesting choices Matt my friend 🙂 I see a mashing up of Intellectual Wasteland covering Strolling Through Background Noise very much like a Godspeed Black Emperor noisefest kind of vibe (but with existential lyrics over the soundscapes). Maybe I could mess around with that concept further down the line but as a special treat for you, I did whip up something by Permission To Be Serious, feast your eyes on this 😀

Bojo – No! (By Permission To Be Serious/David Ellis)

      BoJo!
      Bro!
What the hell is wrong with you?
For starters, one thing needs to be cleared up
Just like your Worzel Gummidge haircut
You’ve dragged us along with the NHS under a bus
After Brexit, lies are now your chief export
It’s no wonder you’ve lost the majority of the people’s trust

      BoJo!
      Bro!
What the hell is wrong with you?
Politicians are characters meant to be revered
Not feared for what they are going to say
Let’s trade you for someone who actually cares
Instead of letting you mouth off
      And cause international incidents

      BoJo!
      Bro!
What the hell is wrong with you?
Didn’t they ever teach you the art of diplomacy at school?
Is this how you earn your wage as Foreign Secretary,
      Attacking established cultures and minorities?
A loveable buffoon or bumbling rogue is not what we see
In fact the only thing clearly to be seen on the horizon
Is a cabinet reshuffle or three, see to it Theresa May before it’s too late!
On second thought don’t bother, it would be better to vote you all out
We’re all tired of playing your political games, when people’s lives are at stake
If Bojo is just the tip of the iceberg, consider yourself sunk like The Titanic
Yes, that’s cold but no more than you all deserve
