NaPoWriMo / GloPoWriMo 2018 – Day 8 – “Modern Sorcery In Society” by David Ellis

Hello folks.

Got another NaPoWriMo entry for y’all that’s super late, as I try my hardest to catch up.

(Look at me, I sound like a stuck record!)

The prompt I used this time relates to writing something where mystical and magical things occur. I can’t help but think that this relates to my local supermarket, where I never know what mysterious and wondrous delights I am going to find that are close to their sell-by date in the reduced foods aisle.

Hopefully I can conjure up something interesting for you tonight though, so here we go!

“Modern Sorcery In Society” by David Ellis

When it looks like work but it doesn’t feel like work

Bridging worlds between the virtual and physical

Recapturing special moments that last a series of lifetimes

Emotional connections that bring family and friends together

The shimmer of the sea under the proud parental gaze of the sun and the moon

Unexpected kisses to a partner declaring infatuation and eternal adoration

That first lick of ice cream or sip of lemonade hitting tongues on a scorching hot day

Tears of gratitude and euphoric joy the day a new pet approaches the driveway

Graduation, careers, marriage, adventures, kids

A baby’s words, steps and then laughter at the silliest of things

Doctors and nurses saving the lives of our loved ones

When you realise that cake isn’t just for birthdays

At the centre of it all, we are the one to witness these modern miracles

You can try describe their beauty and how they make you feel to others

But putting them into words often does not give their true wonder justice

There is magic all around us in our everyday lives

It’s up to us to appreciate it for what it is

And cherish every drop until the day we die

Only then will we truly understand that we are and were the sorcerers of our time

Still want more? Well, I guess you all are probably starting to know the drill by now, as I gather a sprinkling of other poems that were written by other fabulously talented poets on Day 8 of the challenge.

    • Lol TY so much Lori. The poem did exactly the same thing for me and I was worried that we had no lemonade in the house but I forgot that I already bought myself some and had squirreled it away in the fridge, so my thirst was quenched. No ice cream or cake unfortunately but there were other treats lying around that got devoured 😉
