Excuse me while I whip this out.
Hello hello hello – what have we here then?
I’m becoming extremely impressed with my own work ethic and here we are on Thursday again and I have another poem for you.
I welcome your comments like a new pet to the family or a particularly delicious packet of biscuits – both have a place in my heart.
And so do you.
Now read already – I think I have something in my eye *sniffle*
Leaky Bucket (by David Ellis)
Furtively it glances, as it crosses the room
Marking its territory as it grows, blooms
Fearful of knocking anything useful over
A symptom of the chaos and disorder
To touch it, experience the warm embrace
Protecting it, shielding it like a carapace
Mind and body entwined as one entity
Accepting the violence of the generosity
But like all moments that are fleeting, fleeing
You hold on for dear life, pleading, beseeching
Dancing in a decadent waltz until you fall
Alone in the darkness, pallidly mauled
The journey is there but the essence escaped
Genie left the bottle, destruction in his wake
Where is your sanity, where is your map?
Lost at sea then boom! A thunderous clap
They say lightning never strikes twice
Looking at this gift horse right in the mouth
Precisely planned, hell – how could you miss?
With infallible accuracy, a little to the left
Taking another sweep, gesticulating wildly
Will it stop this time and behave less badly?
Strained pink sieve, permeable membrane
Hoping that it sticks, goes against the grain
Capture and preservation is the key
Collecting and tagging your errant butterfly
Putting an original stamp on this world
Allowing the talent to unfurl, to uncurl
Chasing rainbows before they disappear
Colours run red, dry, black, misty, unclear
Clarity can ultimately become your friend
If you understand how your universe bends
Chasing the shape, tasting the jagged thrill
Fast or slow, its core molten, fundamental
A mantra for this day and age it seems
It’s a gift that doesn’t cost a thing
I guess it’s up to you how you use it
The nuances, textures, nuggets
And how you go about plugging
Your leaky bucket…no, again you’ve lost it
Slippery little devil
Now you’ve done, made me think, something I try to avoid on Thurs. P.S love the run-a-long tag. :0
I love playing with the tags – I can use them seriously but it’s always so much more fun to have a little laugh with them!
Thursday thinking isn’t too much of a problem for me, as my brain is usually screaming “Soon be Weekend Weekend Weekend Weekend Squeeeee!”
Thank you for reading, it is really great to get feedback from people that inspire you and who you regard as peers particularly when there is so much other stuff that you could be reading!
Have a great day.
David
done it….obvious Thurs. are not one of my brain in gear days
The way you rhyme your words are so captivating and breath-taking. 🙂
What a lovely comment – thank you.
I’ve written alot of song lyrics, so maybe that is where my rhyming talent has been nurtured and developed – I will rise again with music in the future!
I’m enjoying your work, just read your latest one, I’m a big fan of abstract concepts in poetry and I loved the last sheep intestines line – I always try to write poetry with a big payoff line at the end and that one of yours was brilliant.
Thanks for reading my stuff and look forward to your new material.
David
Why thank you so much, David. You truly are a kind soul. 🙂
I do what I can to build a world where anything is possible and can be transformed in abstract/surrealism. 🙂
Next Monday…I will be posting up my new blog. keep on the look out. 🙂
“But like all moments that are fleeting, fleeing
You hold on for dear life, pleading, beseeching
Dancing in a decadent waltz until you fall
Alone in the darkness, pallidly mauled”…… Yes!
I take it you like that bit very much then 🙂
Well, it was nicely done. …
Thank you very much, most kind of you to say so.
I figured that if ever I was going to be mauled then the most amusing way for it to happen would be in a horrifyingly boring manner!
Genius… 😉
