Hello dear friends, colleagues and Bob at the post office (hey there Bobby boy, keep keeping our mail safe big guy!)
Do I have a treat for you all.
(Wait, do I? Yes, of course I do, it was a rhetorical question, hence the crucial lack of a question mark, calm yourself down before you do yourself an injury please).
In my little bag of tricks, I’ve dug in deep, pulled out and fluffed up another poetic duet that I just finished up with yet another different duet partner.
For your viewing pleasure, I am proud to tell you that I had an absolute blast with my friend Janey over at Cupid or Cats.
Firstly – the Vorsprung durch Technik stuff. We used this Daily Prompt over at the WordPress vaults:-
Daily Prompt: Obstacle Course by Michelle W. on January 27, 2014.
Think about what you wanted to accomplish last week. Did you? What are the things that hold you back from doing everything you’d like to do?
Photographers, artists, poets: show us BARRIERS.
We then squirreled ourselves away in the top secret lab and et voilà! Here we are! (I know French, me. Barely.)
So without further ado, here is the masterpiece itself – comments are very welcome.
“Vanquishing Doubt” by TooFullToWrite & JaneyBGood
Days fold into each other, time merely an impenetrable illusion
Running around, doing too much all at once in a state of confusion
The more we crave to achieve, the less we appear to overcome
Chasing our own tails, underdogs from the very day we are born
Loping languidly forward, perpetually out of step to our own beat
Shapes and spectres surround a seemingly empty space
A place which insinuates a lair devoid of hopes and dreams
The future cannot be read, fear of the unknown consumes
When the world is on fast forward, it is impossible to slow down
Priorities are obscured, answers to questions continue to confound
We live to work, to please others at the expense of our own schedule
Making excuses for lost deadlines, ignoring carpe diem at our peril
Intangible fears impede progress, becoming our own ruination
An unfinished painting, beautiful but yet the journey is still ongoing
The voice that has been stifled must be heard as a roar above the others
Ushering us forward, confidently heralding us towards our new beginnings
Seesawing back and forth between inspired dreams and harsh, indifferent reality
On one hand confidence reigns supreme, whilst the other holds seductive disbelief
We hold the power to halt these wretched demons taking unwilling control of our souls
Potential can be unlocked if it is nurtured and encouraged before apathy takes its toll
Repeated overtures are made, to realise distant aspirations and yearnings
Grappling with self-doubt, memories of past failures, ghouls that continue howling
Tearing down walls constructed with broken hopes we once decided to abandon
Our eyes may be shut but the faint light ahead pierces through all apprehension
The mind is a tool that constantly needs fine tuning to alternative frequencies
If we allow one day to escape our full attention, we abuse the essence of our being
To live a life of truth will ultimately allow us to fully express ourselves
Things that once had a stranglehold are now merely insignificant obstacles
Liberation comes when we begin to trust the depths of our abilities
We must not impugn the capacity of our minds to achieve our desires
The seas can be rugged, waves carrying us and we must cease to fight the current
Growth and knowledge can be derived from pain, strength is found in vanquished doubt

Reblogged this on Cupid or Cats and commented:
Here’s something a little different for you guys. For the last few days, I’ve been working on a poetic duet with none other than the fantastic TooFullToWrite. Together, we wrote something I am proud of. I have to thank him for his guidance with this and for helping me to realise that I can actually (at least attempt to) write poetry. Most of the credit here should go to him. Check out his work if you haven’t already, trust me, it’s worth it. Hope you enjoy this guys 🙂
Enjoyed this. Collaborative poetry writing is not something I’ve tried! Sue
Thank you Sue. As for not trying collaborative poetry, why not step into my office, I’m keen to collaborate with everyone who writes and appreciates poetry 🙂
That’s a kind invitation, but at present I am pressed for time. Perhaps later in the year…a lot later. I am doing the A to Z challenge again in April and trying to juggle all sorts of other writing, and other creative pursuits as well as life in general. Just happen to be managing my comments right now! Sue
I understand Sue, I’ve got a lot on the boil too. My door is always open for when you feel like you want to return! 🙂
