Drink, drink, drink!
Hello everyone, welcome to you one and all.
We are now on Day 11 of NaPoWriMo (National Poetry Writing Month).
Today’s prompt can be found over here:-
NaPoWriMo – Day 11 – Mucho vino!
So ladies and germs, the task today is to write a high falutin’ piece about love and wine. Looks like somebody up there likes me and is obviously taking into account that it is Friday – party on!
I also wanted to make this a bit playful too – perhaps a combination of Frank Sinatra and Weird Al Yankovic – now there’s an eclectic pairing – hope you enjoy it!
“A Treasured Night To Remember” by David Ellis
Just one glass of champagne
Can make us do crazy things
When I’m with you
Life can be so beautiful
I don’t want rush this at all
First we’ll start out the night
Taking in the magnificent sights
Dancing the night away
Searching Google Maps relentlessly
Especially now the format has changed
Until we find a restaurant we want
That has those little bread sticks
And vol au vonts you like so much
I have no need to complain
You never fail to entertain
After we’ve worked our way through
A bottle of White and then Rosé too
It’s time for us to celebrate
Finishing things off with
Dainty chocolate cheesecakes
Champagne is finally on the menu
The buzz and the thrill
As it tickles our nostrils
Sparkling relentlessly
As vigorously as the aquamarines
Yearning, burning, in your passionate gaze
Then more champers for the ride home
Spending time admiring the stars
And if anyone tries to mug us
We’ll introduce the business end
Of a spare bottle to the poor sap’s skull
Stepping over his twitching body
Holding hands and laughing
Because we forgot to pay the bill
Life can sometimes be so cruel
But tonight, we’re both having a ball!
Thank, thank you, you’ve been a great audience, slides will be available in the gift shop. Don’t forget to pick up your free mugs and balloons for the kids!
Now that’s a night to remember! Great poem. LOL made me laugh at the end. So, where’s my balloons?? haha!
We’ve temporarily run out. But you can have a lollipop or a knock-off packet of Oreos providing you send me a Self Addressed Envelope and fifty pounds to cover postage.
Well sorry no Oreos for me, for one I’m broke, for another well they just aren’t good for me, but balloons now, they are calorie free and such fun. 😉
stupid format changes… is that why my Google map kept switching off after twenty minutes when we were going through LA??? Good poem, by the way.
Seems I’m not the only one mad at Google Maps then! And thanks for the praise, appreciate it.
I never exaggerate my impressedness
I chuckled at this combination of lines:
Dancing the night away
Searching Google Maps relentlessly
Especially now the format has changed
Lol that was my favourite bit Angela – I can’t get over how annoying Google Maps have become, I thought they were terrific before but they are a pain in the bottom now when it comes to looking up a simple destination – I’d rather use GPS instead!
