Hello everyone – it’s a purrfect night for some poetic delight!
We are almost at the halfway point of NaPoWriMo (National Poetry Writing Month) and after this one I would have hit twelve in a row.
For today’s prompt, have a clicky over here:-
Now on to business – I stumbled across this wonderful phenomenom known as Caturday (which for the uninitiated is Cat Saturday, Einstein) and since I lurve me some cats, I thought I would use that as the inspiration for the ensuing madness of words that are about to claw their way into your inbox.
Caturday came from a writer and funny lady named Arden and you can find her latest Caturday post here, along with her excellent blog full of dark Flash Fiction stories:-
Writing While Wineing – Time For Some Good Old Fashioned Caturday
So, here we go with the poem and feel free to share your cat stories, jokes, pictures and more in the comments below – let’s keep it fun, frisky and furry (but no hairballs please – we’re British and they are gross).
“Purfect Players” by David Ellis
In Ancient Egypt, they were once revered
Their ability to kill vermin was highly praised
Now that they’re fully domesticated
At times they can be just plain annoying
Leaving me a plethora of presents galore
Some of them smelling worse than dirty laundry
Don’t get me started when they start partying
Singing and screaming outside of my window
Let’s say I want a quick cuddle
If I can grab one running at the speed of light
I will get some mutual affection, no doubt
Until the knives come out if I squeeze too tight
Each one of them unique characters
All with multiple personalities disorders
If they were humans, they would be locked up
Furry felines however, get away with murder
You put more than one of them together
You will certainly have a fight on your hands
But when they know that you are not looking
They will clean each other and be the best of friends
When it’s feeding time, which is far too often
It might as well be at the flaming zoo
Whether dry or wet, it’s all fair game
Godzilla destroys cities more delicately
Than they scoff down all of their food
Yet I am constantly in awe
How much love these creatures inspire
I will always be their most loyal slave
Despite their size, their power knows no bounds
If they look cute then I’m putty in their hands
Cats and dogs own us all and these lands
Forget presidents, kings or queens
Just try to resist and your life will be boring

I love that poem. My cat also loves it. She’s curled up on my lap right now and I don’t wanna move ๐
And thanks for linking to my blog, you rock ๐
So do you – hope to send you some lyrics soon for another duet ๐
Brilliant ๐
Still trying to think of a theme – will send you some lines as soon as the inspiration fairy hits ๐
You can’t be slave to the cats. The robots took over remember. We’re all on lock down. The kitties work for them now.
Lol I forgot about that ๐ – Shall I publish those escapades yet or do you think there is still more of the saga to tell?
I have added to it, lets see if you can break out of jail and cause a riot ๐
Lol I think this idea is cool – I’ll think about my response and start the e-mail chain off tomorrow.
This could get interesting ๐
You’ve captured cats quite well, I should know, I have 2 of my own. ๐
Glad you liked it Jackie – I’ve had cats most of my life, I don’t have any now but I will do again in the future, maybe dogs too and my own petting zoo!
I all ready have mine. 2 cats and a dog! ๐
That is a nice combination – do they gang up on the dog?
The dog is smaller than either cat, my cats are rather large, and he’s the boss!
Lol – they all sound adorable ๐
they are ๐
I can’t believe you passed up a chance to rhyme laundry and quandary… but still… very nice…
Thank you – you are making me purr now.
uh oh…
