NaPoWriMo / GloPoWriMo 2018 – Day 4 – “Tonight Belongs To You” by David Ellis

Hey there fellow poetry aficionados.

Welcome to Day 4 of my NaPoWriMo 2018 extravaganza.

I’m still fighting off a cold, so I shall keep this short and sweet and head straight into the poem, while I am still able to breathe and keep my eyes open.

(Look at me, such a drama queen).

Righto, here we go.

“Tonight Belongs To You” by David Ellis

There’s no cure for conquering the unfamiliar
Belief has to begin and start within yourself
Streets are paved with ghosts of things we cannot control
It’s up to us to decide whether we let them run the show

When there are no definite signs lighting our way
Waterfalls can quickly cascade over us, spilling all over the place
Leaving us stranded in the sand
Drowning out all of our hopes and dreams
Things we’ve been holding on to all of our lives
From boy to girl, woman to man
Things we should never give up without a fight

There are reasons why we should be eager to seek out new horizons
Why fresh experiences should ignite fires in inquisitive hearts and minds
Feeling truly emotional connections from head to toes in the fibres of our bones
You’ve done it before, ancestral, now it’s time to remember once again

For even if you find your way here through a trail of tears
Empty your pockets of all your fears and self-doubts
If you surrender now, you’ll never be found
Forever holding on to the shadows of the past
Tonight belongs to you, it always has and it always will
You just have to see it for yourself

    • My pleasure Maria. I’m trying to build a poetry community where everyone has a chance to get their voices heard. These links and lists will grow so much further over the coming days, as I link back to more participants as I discover them and their poetic entries. It is a pleasure to be able to share your work with others 🙂

    • Hey there S.T. You are very welcome and feel free to share whatever you like, I strongly believe in helping to discover new poems and poets, along with building about a friendly poetry community. My lists are actually going to be growing exponentially on my poems because right now to allow me to publish my own poems too, I like to a handful of people that post on the napowrimo.net website. However there are still tons more that signed up who do not post their links every day, along with some who post on the Facebook Page, and there are others who do A to Z challenges, Poets United, DVerse, etc. And then there is the case where I will be going through all poetry blogs where people have posted one poem and seeing if they have other poems to add to other days. It’s a massive project and one that will take many hours of input but the reward will be worth it in the end for all involved. I often tell people to check for my personal links in their WordPress Spam folders because as I link to so many people and poems, there is always the chance that I will end up in the Spam folder and will have to be approved manually. It is my aim to link to everyone and then read all their poems too, so I look forward to enjoying your work properly once April has finished and I can focus on appreciating them better when there is less noise going on 🙂
