Author Interview – Laura Daleo – “The Vow”, “Immortal Kiss” & “Bound by Blood” (Paranormal/Fantasy/Romance)

Hey there everyone – Happy Friday to you all!

Just a quick note before we get started properly. I link to a lot of other articles in my posts, so WordPress users please check your Spam folders in your Setting Menus and approve any links/pingbacks that you find from me to improve the visibility of your own blog posts, as well as mine, it’s a win win for us both 😉

Today I have another Author Interview session for you, so hop aboard the entertainment express and let’s get this party started!

Please let me introduce you all to Paranormal/Fantasy author Laura Daleo and her trio of romantic novels, as we delve further into her wicked worlds and find out what makes her creative engines tick when it comes to her writing experiences.

Have a great weekend folks and as always, enjoy the show 🙂

Hi there Laura, thank you for joining us to discuss your romantic paranormal fantasy novels and your writing experiences.

Let’s start first with your books themselves – “The Vow”, “Immortal Kiss” and “Bound by Blood”. Please tell us more about of each of them regarding their plots, themes and the elements that bind them to the paranormal and fantasy genres.

The Vow is where paranormal-meets-normal (vampires and humans co-existing in modern times), a murder mystery with lots of danger and high stakes drama, and of course some romance. It forces you to let go of reality, forget the rules, ignore that detective show you love. Claire Matthews will break all the laws to find her brother and achieve justice for her family. The Vow is a fabulous and fresh twist on our favorite vamps, and this page turner will keep you guessing until the very end.

Immortal Kiss enters the secret world of the vampire gods, their thirst for blood and the laws created to prevent the extinction of mankind. The book leads you along a thrilling journey filled to the brim with questions, and a nagging feeling that there are deep, dark secrets that just might put the main character, Beth, at great risk. Immortal Kiss is a sexy and romantic fantasy that will have you on the edge of your seat, anxiously waiting to turn to the next page.

Bound by Blood is volume 2 in the Immortal Kiss series. It picks up five years later and dives right into the enchanting world of tortured vampires and lost loves. From page one, it pulls you in with a terrific mix of action, mythology, sensuality, and complex relationships. Bound by Blood’s journey of heartache, passion, cruelty, betrayal, suffering and redemption stretches the borders of this type of fiction, making these interesting characters feel fresh and original.

If any of your novels were to be made into films (or even a TV series), who would you cast in the lead roles?

I’d probably cast unknowns as I’d want my characters to shine through and be remembered instead of the actor or actress who portrayed them.

What would you choose as your own personal mascot or spirit animal when it comes to you and your style of writing?

I’d say a panther, dark, secretive, and can sneak up on you.

What do you think most characterizes or defines your writing? Do you have any writing quirks or themes that constantly crop up in your stories?

I like to put a twist on classics characters, such as vampires, making them feel fresh and original.

I always throw in some sort of unique bar or club in my books.

What do you find the most difficult thing about writing? And what do you find the easiest?

The most difficult is finding the time and the easiest is coming up with the plot.

Who are some of the authors, poets and/or historical figures that inspire you?

I’m a huge Anne Rice fan. I also love Stephen King. I would say those two have been my inspirations to write.

What sort of research do you do to write your books?

With my books being paranormal, I research the history of the creature, mythology, spells, locations, and settings to make my story authentic.

Why do you write? What inspired you to become a writer?

I’ve always been a creative person. I paint, draw, and write. I love creating characters readers will care about and keep coming back for more.

What keeps you motivated during creative slumps? How do you deal with Writers Block?

I guess I’m lucky in this area. I don’t have creative slumps or writers block. I can’t keep stories from popping into my head. I have a long list of stories to write.

Horror Halloween gravestone spooky tree

You have access to a time machine. What advice would you give to your younger self?

You finish Immortal Kiss in 1996, don’t let it sit in a chest until 2011 to publish it. Publish it in 1996!

How do you spend your free time when you are not writing?

Free time? What’s that? I work Monday – Friday, 9 -5. I have 3 furry kids, Stuart, Morgan, and Dexter, and they all have medical conditions. In 2016, I started my own publishing company, so I pretty much work 24/7.

Tell us more about your upcoming projects. Are you working on anything specific or have plans in the pipeline?

I’m working on the 3rd book in the Immortal Kiss series, The Vampire Within.
Brandon Cass is not your average teenager. He has a taste for blood, human blood. For sixteen years, he stumbled through life without a hitch until…the enigmatic aroma of blood awakened something dark within him.

My goal is to get it to my editor this December. The next book in the pipeline is a ghost story, The Soul Collector.

Finally, are there any nuggets of wisdom that you can impart to other aspiring writers?

Think outside the box. Break some rules. Follow your dream. Never give up. Persistence is key.

And that’s a wrap! Thank you for stopping by Laura and if you’ll forgive the pun, we can’t wait to sink our teeth into all of your enthralling books 🙂

    • Hi there Nickey. I pick random themes for my blog posts and when I link to The Daily Post prompt myself in my post, I also link to every other person that I find who has linked to that particular prompt. WordPress creates a pingback/linkback, which if you approve means that if people click on my pingback on your blog post then they will be able to check out my blog. I link to everybody that makes a blog post on The Daily Post for the prompt I have chosen because it increases the publicity of all WordPress users and exposes their posts to a bigger audience.
