Precious and fragile things
Need careful handling
My God, what NaPoWriMo does to youuuuuuu!
Hello dear friends and welcome to Day 13 of National Poetry Writing Month.
Here is today’s prompt and while it is a good one, I’m still doing my own thing.
Check out the NaPoWriMo website here:-
NaPoWriMo – Lucky Thirteen – Day 13
So here is my latest effort and hope you all like it!
“Life And Growth” by David Ellis
Going toe to toe
Against life’s roulette wheel
Spinning scenarios
Until my number comes up
It’s not about winning any more
Or deciding who keeps score
Each side has players
Rules are now outdated
What’s wrong with this picture
When the pieces don’t fit together
There used to be a single idea
Before it got complicated with fear
We speak without meaning
So our sacrifices mean nothing
Asking for mercy
Being rewarded with stress
To succeed in restoring
Former past glories
Perception must be altered
New paths must be forged
The sun will rise again
Thorns can be removed from paws
Rhythms can return to normal
Growth through strength and wisdom
Courage to face new challenges
Change may be difficult to accept
You make your own luck in this life
With honor, dignity and respect
It’s up to you to hit the jackpot
Well said David, I liked it
Cheers Jackie – very much appreciated 🙂
You just did hit the jackpot…
Oooo oooo oooo oooo *waving arms* – what did I win?
the ability to impress me…
What’s the going rate on that at the moment?
Without having to take your clothes off? You might be surprised…
I’m rarely surprised but often hungry.
Good to know
Good to know you too.
ha
I like this very much. The metaphor is perfectly relevant and your flow is smooth. I especially like the part where you speak of not keeping, score the rules changing and that it’s not about winning. We only need to win in our own life.
Thank you for the lovely comment. It is hard to make them smooth, particularly as I only have a day to write them! I’m glad you liked it though and I agree with your sentiment entirely. We succeed by both doing and by being a good person.
I wrote two poems for NaPoWriMo not from prompts. I wanted to write 30 for the month but my muse has been on hiatus. I hope you’re able to keep up.
I appreciate the support 🙂 So far I am at fourteen in a row, with perserverance I might actually make it through this thing in one piece!
Good!!
Loved it. Another great gem 🙂
Thank you. And now that you are following me, that is another jewel in my crown 🙂
