NaPoWriMo – Poem / Poetry – “Life And Growth”

Precious and fragile things
Need careful handling
My God, what NaPoWriMo does to youuuuuuu!

Hello dear friends and welcome to Day 13 of National Poetry Writing Month.

Here is today’s prompt and while it is a good one, I’m still doing my own thing.

Check out the NaPoWriMo website here:-

NaPoWriMo – Lucky Thirteen – Day 13

So here is my latest effort and hope you all like it!

A roulette wheel by Toni Lozano

“Life And Growth” by David Ellis

Going toe to toe
Against life’s roulette wheel
Spinning scenarios
Until my number comes up

It’s not about winning any more
Or deciding who keeps score
Each side has players
Rules are now outdated

What’s wrong with this picture
When the pieces don’t fit together
There used to be a single idea
Before it got complicated with fear

We speak without meaning
So our sacrifices mean nothing
Asking for mercy
Being rewarded with stress

To succeed in restoring
Former past glories
Perception must be altered
New paths must be forged

The sun will rise again
Thorns can be removed from paws
Rhythms can return to normal
Growth through strength and wisdom

Courage to face new challenges
Change may be difficult to accept
You make your own luck in this life
With honor, dignity and respect
It’s up to you to hit the jackpot

  1. I like this very much. The metaphor is perfectly relevant and your flow is smooth. I especially like the part where you speak of not keeping, score the rules changing and that it’s not about winning. We only need to win in our own life.
