Day Twenty-Five – NanoPoblano – Poem/Poetry – “At The Edge Of The River Of Silence” – (A Double Reversed Etheree) by David Ellis

Hey there muchachorinos.

It’s Day Twenty-Five of NanoPoblano AKA National Blog Posting Month (but with zesty Cheer Peppers to whet your blogging appetites) and I’m back with another video that will have you on the edge of your seat (I hope).

The inspiration for this particular poem came to me whilst browsing the various forms on the Shadow Poetry website and deciding to go with a form that I have never tried before called an “Etheree”.

It is made up of syllables and you can string multiple Etherees together, providing you fulfil the requirements of each Etheree, which is ten lines of ascending or descending syllables to correspond for the lines (so in my poem for example 10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1 then 1 through 10 back up again.

You can get lovely patterns of words with them when you string them together. The challenge with them is to get something that flows with a theme, as you start to have less and less syllables you can use towards the end (or alternatively you start off short and then can become more loquacious as you head further down the poem).

It’s easy to lose direction in life
The wandering rivers of our mind
Just when you think you’re feeling fine
The air is filled with despair
With no real reason why
Darkness soon arrives
Light scatters, hides
Deep silence
The edge
Scared
Change
Music
Spirits soar
You find resolve
Weak but now you’re strong
What happens tomorrow
Is a dream that holds no fear
You’re so tired of being afraid
The door is open for a reason
Listen the way we did as kids and shine
